Update

Chang Mai

I know you're all desperate for some news about our trip.

Well I finally got myself together and will try to give you guys an update on the last three weeks of our life.And no, travelling isn't always easy...

After Ko phangan, we travelled to Kanachaburi ( via bangkok where we chilled out for a couple of days ).


Kanachaburi Is known for it's bridge over the river Kwai..
In WW 2 the Japanese decided to build a railway between Burma and bangkok, to quicker transport warsupplies. They used prisoners from all over the world to build this railway.
It was a huge task, and they had set a very impossible time limit to do so.
Any way, the railway was build in time, costing many of lives, since the people had to work under unhuman conditions ( think of heat insects diseases lack of food, sleep etc).


Besides visiting this bridge their was absolutely nothing else to do Kanachaburi
Since I normally always run in to people I know whereverer i am in the world, wasn't it a suprise that I run in to someone familiar.
Next door by the way, pretty weird!!!!

We also had our first visit to the hospital., Desire had a small infection on her toe which wouldn't go away. it started to get under her toe nail, getting yellow etc, if it gets to the bloodstream it will infect your blood etc
After about two weeks trying to nurse herself, I finally convinced here to go to the A&E

The doctor which looked like she was 18 years old ( Thai people don't seem to age easily) sais that she wanted to remove her toe nail.
Ofcourse Desire freaked out, and said that their was no way that she could go ahead.
They eventually agreed on removing a small peace under sedation.
Job done, antibiotics for a week and loads of other pills. ( it's all healed now)
While going back to our hostel I fell over on flip flops, hurting my big toe pretty bad aswell.
So now desire had to nurse us both.

Next stop was ayuthaya, ( the former capital of thailand).
The only thing to do here was visiting temples, so we did.
After 1 day of doing this you don't want to see a temple for while.
It still was pretty interesting though, don't get me wrong!
We stayed their for about a day or two and wanted to head up to Chang Mai by night train.

Since we got tipped to take a lower bed by a lovely dutch couple which we met along the way( to see the nice views). We decided to do so, and because their is an international flowershow going on here and the Thai people have holiday, every single bed was taken in the train for the next week.
Since we have plenty of time anyway ( yeah i am rubbing it in) we booked the train for a week later than planned. Which gave us a week of time to kill.

We decided to visit a national park somewhere 3 hours east of Bangkok, while buying our tickets the guy quoted me a ridiculous high fare. So instead of going east we took the first train to bangkok, after arriving there we took the bus to rayong, and the boat to Ko samet.

Yes an other island,
since the weather man is always wrong we tried our luck ( predicted thunderstorms and showers for a week).
Our luck paid off and we had a great week of beautifull sunshine, nice food, nice people, nice beaches and wonderfull snorkeling.

We met a lot of great people, also crazy!!!!
Since we met a couple who smuggled 100 grams of nepal hash into thailand ( in his ass), and where on their way home also smuggling the hash back to their hometown somewhere in europe!!!!!!!!
I told the guy that he was mentally stupid, but he was convinced the stars where right for him.
I just finished reading bangkok hilton, ( story of a english girl who got caught smuggling 89 grams of heroine, and she got 25 years sentence). Anyway hope he made it home save, and is now smoking a big split.

The hostel we stayed also had a beachbar, we're we chilled out mostly every night. Playing pool and talking to fellow travellers. this bar was run by a London guy, who also had muay thai boxing school.
We both followed a thai boxing class, and apperently Desire is a born talent for this sport!
They all where very impressed by here kickings, including myself!!!!

Time flies when you're having fun, so the week flew by and whe found ourself sitting in the train on the way to Chang Mai.

Pretty comfartable way of travelling, very nice bed. took the train at 19.35 and arrived the next day at 9.45 in the morning.
We booked a hostel which was recommended to us, we were ment to get a pick up from the train station and get a room for a certain price.
No one picked is up and when finally arriving there, the price they qouted was wrong aswell.
Maybe it's the language barriere!!
But funnely enough this hostel was run by a dutch guy!!!!!! (again....)

And it's absolutly fantastic, so everyone who will find themselves in Chang Mai one day should go here.

Since we went out last night and I have a terrible hangover, the story maybe doesn't make sence.
Sorry for the ones who think so!!!!!!!!
No we don't get drunk every night as a lot of other travellers do!
This usually happens one's every 10 days or so!
Believe it or not, today Desire and I have our 5 year anniversary.
That was the reason we celebrated last night and had a big party!!!!!

Tomorrow we are off for a 3 day trekking tour, including rafting, elephant riding and camping in a village somewhere in the jungle.
Hope we survive and have a great time!!!!!
